The British won the battle of Britain in spring of 1941, keeping them safe from invasion. Hideki Tojo led the attack on Pearl Harbor. On December 7, 1941 more than 2,300 Americans where Killed. America wanted to go to war after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Winston Churchill called President Roosevelt and Roosevelt said that America had entered the war as well. Axis Advances (Taylor)

When the U.S. entered the war the Allies had a land disadvantage. Before the war the Soviet Union had told Germany that they wouldn’t attack each other. Hitler still attacked so the Soviet Union joined the Allies. In 1940 only Britain was left against the Axis. The British had to defend bomb attacks in the battle of Britain. Churchill had to move to an underground bomb shelter. President Roosevelt didn’t join the war even though Churchill wanted him to. The United States lent Britain the war supplies they needed. Roosevelt told isolationists that there was a tragedy to come.

The Draft (Sean)

When the U.S. entered the war they barely had any men to fight around the world. Drafting solved that problem. Ten million men were drafted for the war. When the government drafted you they would send a little note. This note said “you have been selected to be trained and for service in the army.” A man named Charlie Miller was at a young age when he got that note. “I was young and going about my daily life and all of the sudden the sky opens and there we are World War 2.” Charlie Miller remembers.
